anyone ...

"anyone lived in a pretty how town" (1940) is a haunting, chant-like poem by e. e. cummings (1894-1962) that relies on repetition, pronouns, and acoustics to achieve a sense of mystery -- the feeling that it certainly means something, though we're not totally sure what.  The poem is presented below only in recitation, without text, to demonstrate how not having reference to the visual aid of words on a page can heighten disorientation in an already disorienting poem.
